Minéraluxe Swim Spa expert guide
Minéraluxe Swim Spa: complete swim spa maintenance guide
A swim spa is not maintained like a small traditional spa. Its much larger water volume, variable temperature, long swimming periods, and bather load completely change the demands on filtration, oxidation, and disinfection.
At Piscine Hippocampe, we use Minéraluxe Swim Spa as a method structured around four elements: Cube Swim Spa, Oxygen Swim Spa, a residual sanitizer suited to the temperature, and regularly maintained filtration.
Why a different method?
Traditional spa vs. swim spa: what really changes
A traditional spa often holds around 1,000 to 2,000 liters. A swim spa can hold several thousand liters. The same product dosage therefore cannot be used in the same way.
Other differences also come into play:
- the temperature can vary from around 80 °F to nearly 100 °F depending on use;
- sessions are often longer;
- swimming and exercise increase the organic load;
- the surfaces, plumbing, and filters are larger;
- draining requires more planning.
The 4 pillars
How Minéraluxe Swim Spa works
Mineral treatment that helps manage deposits and support surface cleanliness.
Oxidizer that helps break down organic matter accumulated after swimming and exercise.
Chlorine or bromine remains necessary to maintain residual disinfection.
Clean cartridges and good circulation allow the rest of the system to function properly.

How to dose Minéraluxe in a swim spa
The dosage must always be calculated based on the actual volume of the pool, not simply according to the length of the swim spa.
As a starting point in the Piscine Hippocampe protocol:
- Oxygen Swim Spa: approximately 250 g per 10,000 L, once a week;
- Cube Swim Spa: approximately 1 cube per 15,000 L, once a week;
- for a pool of approximately 7,000 L or less, half a dose of Cube may be more appropriate depending on the configuration.
These values serve as starting points. Temperature, usage, sanitizer type, contaminant levels, and the directions on the products remain the priority.
Minéraluxe Swim Spa dosage chart by volume
| Volume | Oxygen / week | Cube / week | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 L | ≈ 125 g | ≈ 1/2 cube | Small swim spa / light use |
| 7,000 L | ≈ 175 g | ≈ 1/2 cube | Adjust according to temperature and use |
| 10,000 L | ≈ 250 g | ≈ 2/3 cube | Oxygen reference volume |
| 15,000 L | ≈ 375 g | ≈ 1 cube | Cube reference volume |
The doses above are starting points used in our protocol. Always confirm with the product label, the actual volume, and test results.
Sanitizer: why temperature changes everything
A swim spa used at 82 °F as an exercise pool does not require exactly the same management as a swim spa maintained at 98 °F for relaxation.
As an operational guideline at Piscine Hippocampe:
- at around 80 to 85 °F, a free chlorine target of around 1 to 3 ppm may be suitable depending on use and equipment;
- at around 95 to 100 °F, the target is generally closer to 3 to 5 ppm.
These targets should be adjusted according to the manufacturer, the sanitization system, and actual usage. Cube and Oxygen never replace sanitizer.
Simple weekly routine
Check sanitizer and pH several times a week depending on use.
Based on the actual volume and the reference dose.
A weekly rinse helps maintain good flow.
Clarity, foam, odor, and surfaces often provide the first signs of an imbalance.
Filters: first line of defense
In a swim spa, filtration is particularly important because the volume is large and sessions are long.
Rinse the cartridges about once a week, then carry out a more thorough cleaning with Minéraluxe Filter Revive regularly, often about once a month depending on use and the model.
In several Endless Pools installations, two cartridges are used. They must be maintained together to preserve uniform flow.
Start-up: begin with clean plumbing
During initial setup or after several months of use, the condition of the plumbing directly affects water stability.
Before draining, Minéraluxe Cleanse & Drain helps clean the plumbing and remove some of the oils, grease, and organic residue accumulated in the system's hidden areas.
After treatment, drain completely, rinse, and refill. When recommended by the manufacturer, fill through the filter compartment to reduce the risk of air pockets.
When should you replace the water?
A swim spa can keep its water much longer than a small spa if filtration and water chemistry are properly managed, but the water eventually accumulates dissolved solids and contaminants.
As a practical rule, many owners plan to drain the water approximately every 4 to 5 months, avoiding Quebec's harshest cold whenever possible. Draining before winter or during a late-winter thaw is often easier to manage.
What should you do after a long swim session?
A long training session, several bathers, or the use of sunscreen products greatly increases the organic load.
After heavy use:
- check the sanitizer;
- extend filtration as needed;
- adjust Oxygen if the organic load has been high;
- rinse the filters if the flow seems reduced;
- monitor the water clarity over the following 24 hours.
Vacation: what should you do before leaving?
Before an absence, test and balance the water, clean the filters, and make sure the circulation is operating normally.
Depending on your sanitation method, a higher-than-usual dose may be appropriate before a short absence, but it must be calculated based on test results and the product instructions. Slightly lowering the temperature can also reduce demand and costs.
Four-season use in Quebec
A swim spa can be used year-round, but winter requires extra vigilance. If the swim spa remains operational, maintain a safe temperature and avoid letting the water drop to levels where the risk of freezing increases.
If the swim spa must be closed, winterization must be complete. The pipes, pumps, low areas, jets, and hidden components must be drained or protected. A partial shutdown is particularly risky for a swim spa because of the amount of plumbing.
Mistakes to avoid
The most common mistakes with Minéraluxe Swim Spa
The pool volume should always guide the quantities.
The demand for disinfectant increases when the water is warmer.
Good water chemistry cannot compensate for a saturated filter.
A preventive routine takes less time and fewer products.
Residue in the pipes can quickly contaminate fresh water.
Test, correct in a logical order, and observe the result.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Minéraluxe Swim Spa
How much Oxygen is needed in a swim spa?
As a starting point, the Piscine Hippocampe protocol uses about 250 g per 10,000 L once a week, then adjusts according to usage and water quality.
How many Cubes should be used?
As a starting point, use about one Cube per 15,000 L. For smaller volumes, half a dose may be more appropriate.
Does Cube replace chlorine?
No. Cube and Oxygen complement the routine, but a residual disinfectant is still necessary.
How often should filters be cleaned?
Rinse them about once a week and perform a deeper cleaning with Filter Revive according to usage, often about once a month.
When should a swim spa be drained?
The frequency depends on the volume and usage, but draining around every 4 to 5 months is a practical guideline for many installations.
Does Minéraluxe Swim Spa work only with Endless Pools?
No. Minéraluxe Swim Spa products are intended for swim spas in general. However, the dosage and routine must be adapted to the volume, temperature, and installed system.
