Replacement guide · Piscine Hippocampe
A new pool.
What if you could keep some of your equipment?
Is your pool nearing the end of its life, but your pump, filter, or heat pump still working? Replacing an above-ground pool doesn’t necessarily mean replacing all the equipment.
The right approach is to distinguish what needs to be new, what can be kept, and what needs to be checked. At Piscine Hippocampe in Delson, we plan your project based on your setup and the equipment you’d like to reuse.

01 · Take inventory
Which equipment can you keep when replacing a pool?
The starting point isn’t just an appliance’s age. Its compatibility with the new pool matters too. Here are the items to have checked before deciding what to keep.
On your phone, swipe across the table to see all the checks.
| Existing equipment | Can it stay? | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The pump | Consider | Check its condition, model number, capacity, and suitability for the pump, plumbing, and future water volume. |
| The filter | Consider | Confirm its capacity and condition. Maintenance or replacement of the filter media should be assessed separately. |
| The heat pump | Check | Make sure it’s suitable for the new pool, the chosen location, and the planned connections. |
| The salt system | Check | Confirm its capacity and condition, and whether the new pool and its equipment are compatible with this treatment. |
| The robot or pool vacuum | Depending on the model | Check the dimensions, pool liner, and conditions of use specified by the cleaner’s manufacturer. |
| The brush, skimmer net, and tools | Often possible | Keep accessories that are in good condition and suited to the new pool. Replace any damaged items. |
| The ladder or steps | Reassess | Compare the heights, fasteners, support, and safe access requirements of the new pool. |
| The solar cover and its reel | Depending on the size | Compare the shape, dimensions, and available space around the new pool. |
Hydro-Québec emphasizes the importance of matching the pump to the filter capacity, pipe diameter, and volume to be treated. That’s why it’s important to compare the entire system, not just the motor’s power. See Hydro-Québec’s tips on efficient pumps →
02 · Your new pool
The Hippocampe replacement package: what’s included
At Piscine Hippocampe, the replacement package, also called “unequipped,” is intended for projects where compatible existing equipment can be reused.
What’s included
- The pool.
- The base structure.
- A new liner.
- A new main drain.
- A new skimmer.
What you keep, based on the assessment
Your pump, filter, and any other equipment selected for the new project.
With this package, the customer arranges to reconnect their existing equipment. The required fittings and division of work must be specified in the quote.
Have a qualified professional check the relevant electrical connections.
Removal of the old pool, site preparation, installation services, and options should be specified for your project. The package contents do not mean that all work around the pool is automatically included.
Request a replacement quote →03 · Review the location
Same size doesn’t mean the same supports or connections
Would you like to keep the current diameter to preserve your existing layout? That’s a good starting point, but the new model needs to be compared with the existing installation. The posts, supports, wall height, and connection locations may differ.
The base and ground
Have the condition of the base and the work needed to support the new pool assessed. An existing base should not be assumed to be reusable without an evaluation.
The deck and access
Compare the pool height, post locations, circulation, and access to the water. The deck or ladder may need adjustments.
Existing plumbing
Check the condition of the pipes and whether the fittings are compatible with the drain, skimmer, and equipment. Some sections or connections may need to be replaced.
Before the work begins, contact your municipality to confirm the permit and requirements for the replacement, deck and access. The Government of Québec recommends this step to have your project validated. See the official information on pool safety →
04 · Choose the right option
Keep your existing equipment or start fresh with a fully equipped pool?
Your setup remains consistent
The replacement package
Consider this option if your equipment is in good condition, compatible with the new pool and suited to your needs.
You’re replacing the pool and the components included in the package, while keeping the equipment approved for the project.
Several components need replacing
The fully equipped pool
Compare this option if you want a new pump, filter and plumbing optimized for your chosen pool.
The liner and maintenance accessories are included depending on your package. Component selection is intended to provide efficient circulation and filtration; results depend on the configuration.
Eligible fully equipped packages come with an additional three-year warranty covering the pump, filter and covered labor, including certain repairs to the liner or structure. Conditions apply, and manufacturer warranties are specific to each component.
For the equipment you’re keeping, ask for details about the scope of work and the warranty terms that apply to your project. This check makes it possible to compare the two options with clear inclusions.

Frequently asked questions
Before replacing your above-ground pool
Can I keep my pump and filter?
Yes, if their condition and specifications are suitable for the new pool. Have the equipment specifications and plumbing configuration checked before confirming that they can be reused.
Can I keep my current liner?
Our replacement package includes a new liner. We therefore prepare the project with a liner suited to the new pool, rather than planning to reinstall the old one.
Will the main drain and skimmer be new?
Yes. A new main drain and a new skimmer are included in the replacement package described in this guide. Connections to your existing equipment still need to be planned.
Will a pool with the same diameter fit my deck?
Not automatically. The height, posts, supports, and exterior shape of the new model must be compared with the existing setup.
Can I keep my saltwater treatment system?
The compatibility of the pool, system, and other equipment must be confirmed, as well as the system’s capacity for the new water volume. The choice of maintenance products, including Pristiva for compatible saltwater installations or Dazzle, depending on the program selected, can be reviewed with our team.
