Share the Gift of Water: the impact of Backyard Brands

According to the latest estimates from the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme, 2.1 billion people worldwide still lacked access to a safely managed drinking water service in 2024. In addition, 3.4 billion people lacked access to safely managed sanitation and 1.7 billion did not have basic hygiene services at home.

Women and girls are particularly affected, spending hours each day searching for water in polluted streams and ponds, exposing their families to waterborne diseases and compromising their future, including their educational opportunities.

Schools are also affected. In 2025, according to UNICEF, 429 million school-age children attended a school without a basic drinking water service, while 545 million had no access to handwashing facilities with water and soap. Access to water, sanitation and hygiene plays a direct role in health, dignity and school attendance.

In the rural areas of Kenya and Uganda, we work with school communities to collect and store rainwater, dig wells and implement appropriate sanitation and hygiene practices. We also support schools in creating income-generating activities, such as soap making, with the soap sold to communities to fund school supplies.

Thanks to the support of pool and spa consumers, our professional distributor network, as well as numerous local Rotary Clubs and Rotary International, we can select, build and monitor sustainable projects, ensuring a long-term impact.
