Chlorine sticks or chlorine puck (tablets)
Mega Tabs or Protect Sticks allow you to have a hassle free maintenance and will save you a lot of time. Prior to the creation of Mega Tabs or Protect Sticks, you had to add granular or liquid chlorine to your pool on a daily basis. To reduce the time spent on pool maintenance, pool chemical manufacturers have created chlorine tablets and sticks. These are sanitizers that kill bacteria. They contain « stabilizing » cyanuric acid in small doses (10%) that acts as a « sunscreen » to help slow down the burning of chlorine. Chlorine tablets are slow release, which minimizes testing and pool maintenance.
What is the difference between chlorine sticks and chlorine tablets?
Chlorine sticks, like Dazzle Protect Stick, are hydraulically compressed. When the manufacturer uses this technique and shape, it means that the product can achieve a better compaction rate. The stick then dissolves more slowly which makes maintenance easier. The stick is compacted evenly along its entire length, it is compacted both in the center and on the outside. The advantage lies in the consistency of the dissolution. In other words, the stick dissolves evenly, which allows a stable release of chlorine into the water. The cylindrical shape also allows us to reduce the friction surface. This combination means there is no waste and you use the least amount of product possible to treat your water. Dazzle Protect Stick can be safely applied in the skimmer or in a chlorinator.
Dazzle Mega Tabs, on the other hand, are made with the same quality chlorine as the sticks, but are mechanically compacted into puck form. This is a faster and less expensive process that results in a product that does not have the same dissolving consistency. It would be like a smarties or an M&M (hard on the outside but soft on the inside). The shape of the tablet also exposes more surface area to the water. More surface area equals more dissolution. A Dazzle Mega Tabs dissolves slowly at first but more quickly as it gets smaller, releasing chlorine at a faster rate toward the end. The application of this product is very similar to the Dazzle Protect Sticks, they can be easily applied in the skimmer but application in a chlorinator is highly recommended for better control
When comparing the two products, a Dazzle Protect Sticks will generally last 1.5 to 2 times longer, taking these factors into account. This means that depending on the size of your pool and the heat of your pool, chlorine sticks can last up to a week while chlorine tablets last about 2-3 days.
Sanitizer is one of the cornerstones of basic pool chemistry, and adding chlorine tablets is an easy way to introduce this essential chemical to your pool.
